Mission & story

The Fund engages the Lakes Region to support children and families in need — raising awareness and channeling community generosity year-round. The Auction began with a radio fundraiser inspired by founder Warren Bailey’s call to use the microphone for good.

Mission & story

Children’s Fund & year-round events

The Greater Lakes Region Children’s Fund is the umbrella for the December Auction and other fundraisers such as Pub Mania, Christmas in July, and the Sweepstakes Social. The Auction itself stays the same beloved December tradition under that clearer year-round identity.

Fund FAQ

Our history

What started in 1982 as a small radio auction grew into a multi-day community event. From 1999 onward, radio, cable, and LRPA television coverage helped expand reach. Over four decades the community has directed millions of dollars to local nonprofits serving kids and families.

History

Where the money goes

Proceeds support local nonprofits that meet basic needs, reduce those needs over time, fund capital improvements for kids’ services, and open educational or recreational opportunities families might not otherwise afford. A Distribution Committee reviews applications for board approval.
